LYME DISEASE TREATMENT IN CYPRUS
Lyme disease, also known as Lyme borreliosis, is caused by the tick-borne spirochete bacterium Borrelia burgdorfer.
Cyprus Lyme Disease Treatment
Lyme disease is a multi system inflammatory disease. Neurologic, articular and cardiac manifestations may follow early infection if left untreated. While the B. burgdorferi bacterium does not make toxins or cause direct tissue damage, a person may experience local inflammation as a result from host response mechanisms.
Is there Lyme Disease in Cyprus?
Ticks are a rising problem across Europe, causing chronic illnesses like Lyme disease.
- Cause irritation
- Lead to sores
- Transmit diseases such as Lyme disease, which also affects humans
Because Lyme bacteria dwells in the mouth, the disease can cause toothache, temporomandibular (jaw) joint pain, masticatory (chewing) muscle pain, headaches, and other dental problems.
If you are anxious about the effects of Lyme disease to your oral health, contact us for a dental hygiene check-up.
Oral Symptoms of Lyme Disease
Tick borne Lyme disease can cause:
- Facial and dental pain (tooth ache)
- Facial nerve palsy
- Temporomandibular (jaw) joint pain
- Masticatory (chewing) muscle pain
Other oral symptoms can be:
- Dry mouth
- Tooth sensitivity
- Pulpitis, or the oral inflammation of dental pulp
- Bell’s palsy, or partial facial paralysis
- Involvement of the saliva producing glands may manifest as brief inflammation of the gland
When performing dental procedures on a patient with Lyme disease, the effects that can precipitate must also be considered.
The link between Lyme Disease and your oral health
It is well-known that there is a strong connection between Lyme disease and dental problems. Lyme-related microorganisms can reside inside the root canal or decayed teeth and dental toxicity, due to certain metals in the oral cavity, can also enhance problems related to Lyme disease.
Additionally, it has been noted that Lyme disease is fed by the specific bacteria that exist in root canals and in the area where teeth have been removed.
At Yiannikos Centre of Holistic Dentistry we offer Orotox testing for our patients in order to evaluate whether pathogenic bacteria are present inside the root canals of dead or endodontically-treated teeth (especially if no laser is to be performed for root canal sterilization during a root canal treatment).
These bacteria release toxins which are harmful for the body. With Orotox testing we can detect these toxic bacteria and determine whether we should extract an endodontically treated tooth or not.
Biocompatible restorations and amalgam filling removal
Toxicity from metals in the mouth may also contribute to Lyme Disease symptoms. Therefore, when you need to get a cavity treated, it’s best to choose biocompatible metal-free restorations and/or protocols that will remove any metals in the oral cavity with absolute safety.
This is the reason why we use the SMART Protocol technique to remove any silver fillings that you might have.
It ensures the safest process from the beginning to the end for you – OUR patient.
Our Centre exclusively uses, for fillings and for the teeth’s restoration after amalgam fillings’ removal, the worldwide first restoration material, the Admira Fusion VOCO which does NOT contain:
- Bis-GMA, TEGDMA, GlyDMA and HEMA (cytotoxic substances that are responsible for allergies and damages to the human body and also to the environment)
Additionally, Admira Fusion has a pure ceramic base and it’s absolutely biocompatible.
