FAQs
Are dental fillings painful?
No, dental fillings should not be painful. The team at Yiannikos Centre for Holistic Dentistry takes extra care to ensure that you have the easiest, safest, and most catering dental experience that will not cause you severe discomfort.
How long do fillings last?
Fillings of either material will last anywhere between 7-20 years. This is all dependent on the fillings position, size, and how well you look after your teeth. If the filling is placed in a spot where it is exposed to rigorous chewing, it could be under more stress and therefore, not last as long.
Can you eat after a filling?
A composite white filling will harden immediately after your appointment. However, it is highly recommended that you wait at least 2 hours before eating to ensure that the filling is fully settled in your mouth.
What is in an amalgam filling?
Amalgam is a filling material which we no longer use in our practice, but we do remove them and replace with a new restorative material, Admira Fusion, which has a pure ceramic base and its absolutely biocompatible.
Amalgam fillings are made from a mixture of metals consisting of half liquid mercury, and half of a powdered alloy consisting of silver, tin, and copper.
We remove amalgam fillings with Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique (SMART), the protocol developed based on research from the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT).
What are tooth fillings made of?
As we are a holistic dentist in Cyprus, we only use biocompatible, effective, and aesthetically seamless materials. For our fillings, we use Admira Fusion VOCO material which is a ceramic resin-based material. This material is biocompatible, effective, and matches the natural colour of the teeth
What is amalgam filling?
Amalgam fillings are more commonly known as silver fillings. Amalgam fillings are a more outdated material to use for dental fillings because they contain mercury, a toxic metal. Amalgam fillings are also obvious on the teeth and make them appear darker.
How to heal cavities naturally at home?
Although enamel can heal itself, a cavity cannot be healed naturally. If you have a cavity, it is important to get a proper dental filling in order to prevent further damage.
Cavities that are not treated can lead to infection, severe tooth decay and abscess, and possibly tooth loss.
